And I just realized (well forgot) that the high-talker Avery Johnson played and coached most of his career in Texas.

He was sucking on frog legs all night.

That's why I listened to Brian Jefferies & Ryan Hansen even they they were 30 seconds ahead of the video. I'm done listening to a bunch of haters talking about my team. I know we all hate the Pac 12 network but at least the commentators know our team

You don’t like hearing Pelle getting called Kerr Kriisa and Dalen getting called Benn Mathurin repeatedly?

I like to make it a game of Bingo. Dalen getting called “Jason” is the middle space.

Jefferies' voice is that of the ancient Greek poets who sang the truth of history into being. If not in his voice it ain't real for me.

Bill Plaschke Is So Full Of Shit

Posted: Thu Mar 24, 2022 6:59 am
by TheCatInTheHat
As part of my morning routine, I read a number of newspapers, the Star, the Republic, and the LA (actually El Segundo) Times, among a number of others.

Bill Plaschke is an "award-winning" (blah-blah-blah) sports columnist, a sometimes critic, and a frequent sycophant for the Times. So this morning, I almost lost my breakfast of fried eggs over his fanny-kissing column about Tyger (yuch) Campbell and his "wonderous" hair. (Plaschke has none.) If you live on another planet (LA), Tyger is not a spoiled and entitled brat from a private prep school in Indiana with a non-team focused "hey, look at me" gimmick that would have had John Wooden showing him the door. No, he's the embodiment of Jackie Robinson. He's been forced to endure the slings and arrows of outrageous fandom mocking his stupid-looking Sideshow Bob look. And of course, Arizona fans get their moment. His mom (apparently related to Sarah Bernhardt, complete with all the "oh no...woe is me" crap), whined about her darling baby boy being taunted in their loss at McKale "because of an animosity seeming based on his hair." And his 12-year-old brother cried. Lot of tears in that family...7th grader, Little League, no crying in baseball...oh, well; different sport. I'm sure everybody says something about the moronic hair, but I thought that's what "Tyger" wanted...attention. Sorry if he can't dictate that it must always be lavish praise, but at least he's got Plaschke for that. Not a word about Tyger blatantly tackling Pelle Larsson in a dead ball situation right in front of the student section, which is what actually caused the "F-you, Tyger" reaction the rest of the game whenever he touched the ball. Since it had such an impact, it had the desired effect from a rowdy student section. You either want to be a relevant player in college athletics with a home advantage and boisterous fans who travel, or you want to apologize for every specious sour-grapes claim made by a defeated opponent to make the little-old-lady Pac-12 presidents happy while they re-arrange their napkins and silverware. You can probably tell by the tone of this where I stand.

After we get our power ratings for post-season play, I've got zero conference loyalty. If we do well enough, nobody cares how strong or weak our other conference members are. So, here's to a Wildcat win over Houston tonight, and a North Carolina win over UCLA tomorrow night.

I like that post and I echo the sentiment of hating the “back the pac” bullshit. I’d like the conference to get respect, but last year did jack shit.

All I care about is Arizona basketball. Fuck all the rest.

Cindy and that other guy were awful last night, constantly stumbling over sentences and trying so hard to come up with something clever.

You don't always have to put your personal stamp on a game, you can just call a normal game.

It was like they were trying out new “signature catchphrases” in a practice session. I half expected to hear a “boom goes the dynamite!”

I’m not a fan of Brunson but the color guy was worse. I’ve heard better analysis from the drunk at the end of the bar.

I started listening to the radio guys because the game was late and I knew Cindy Brunson was calling the game. I'm glad I muted the game and listened to Brian Jeffries. They were off by 10 seconds but he is so good.

Listening to her for close to 2 hours should be used in prisons as a form of punishment. I equate listening to her to being worse than getting sent to "the hole" or being waterboarded. She is straight up nails down a chalkboard. Horrific!!!

Got to agree with everyone else. Brunson and the color guy, who rarely said anything of significance, were both awful.

I am not a guy that usually blasts announcers. I think most, even many that listeners find terrible, are actually passable. That crew last night was so God awful that I actually busted out laughing multiple times at how bad they were.

Throwing catchphrases against the wall to see if they would stick. Over excitement at routine plays, under excitement at great plays. Stumbling over words repeatedly. I have heard many low level college broadcasts that had better announcers then what we heard last night.

Hell Bill Walton is 100 times better even when he is tangential and lit on whatever he smoked or ate before the game.

I think Cindy needs to go back to the studio and leave the broadcasting to people who know how to do it. I didn't mind her in the studio years ago when she was at ESPN.

I thought Brunson was pretty good. She kept up with the action well.

I could've used a few less catchy phrases and changing of her voice to try and seem exciting though.

I was trying to think of why that sounded so familiar and now I know. Love him, but that was not good commentary. Even kids can figure out how many possessions a game is.

You all didn’t love “alley oppey’?

I just assumed she is so used to trying to make womens bball sound interesting that she just overdoes every sentence.

I’m curious if the announcers are together. Or if they are in different locations.

Fox should just buy the local feed instead of hiring people to watch it on zoom.

I mean he does Cardinal games during NFL season so it's easy for him to make that kind of mistake when Kerr does those crazy QB type of passes lol.

Walton even called him out on it tonight.

But I generally like his work.

I’m a fan of Big Bill, and he was tuned in for the first 8 minutes or so…

He really shouldn’t have been working after the AZ/USC game.

Imagine if during a late season football game between top teams with postseason positioning on the line the announcers just ignored 7 or 8 plays in a row to chat up their special guest who was on one of the teams fifty years ago.

Assuming we wind up in the B12 we wont be listening to Bill much longer.

It will be weird hearing Walton promote the Conference of "Corn & Cheese" during B1G games.
