catgrad, did you finally read what a number of people have been saying here? Yes a lot of people think we've already hired someone. I happen to be on that bandwagon and if it turns out wrong, I'll come back, eat crow and apologize to you. You asked "what am I missing?" I think you're missing reason and sanity and a chance to be something other than angry.

That's the only plausible explanation if RichRod is serious about turning the defense around.

Guess we will find out after Feb 3 since that is NLI signing day. If on Feb 4 and no announcement, I will be concerned.

Isn't waiting until after signing day kind of a slimy thing to do? You're telling a kid to commit 3+ years of his life at a school to play for you and then once he can no longer back out of the commitment you say sayonara and hop out the back door.

I thought this way last year when a couple of college assistants delayed announcing their moves to the NFL... I think it is a shitty thing to do to the kids.

Give them th straight scoop and let them make an informed decision.

I wonder if the DL coach is something that Dudek has been alluding to in his "I know something you don't" tweets. It might be a recruit or two, but then again... we'll know in a few days.

This is probably nothing, since it was from a Polynesian Hall OF Fame dinner, but hey, it'd be fun if he showed up on the staff:

Scheer posted a possible name in Scout Premium but he hasn't tweeted it out.

And that's not the name that Scheer floated.

That would be a pretty good hire for DL coach since many (cough cough) wanted him for DC.

Not sure if you are joking, but the only person I came up with is someone in the state of Texas who does not appear like the big name that required you to wait till after signing day. And not Art Briles.

And how am I joking of saying who is going to be our DL coach. Art Briles your got to be fool to not fall for that joke. Who is going to be our DL coach is asking, If you don't know then just said you don't know. It not hard.

First of all I was responding to Chief, I thought that was made clear by his comment being the one quoted. Second, as I have asked before and you have not answered. Is English your second language? I really would like to know, not insult just curious. If you don't know just said you don't know. It not hard.

So is the conventional wisdom still that we have our big name guy and the announcement was delayed to protect his current (previous) school's recruiting class?

I would think we'd have heard something by now if that was the case. It seems really odd that nothing has been announced yet.

I doubt it's a big name guy, but it'll be a young guy with a bit of experience that can recruit. Chief's hint would fit that profile.

I was on the band wagon that was thinking we had someone hired already and were waiting to announce it. That band wagon seems to have left town.
I hope they announce someone before Spring practice starts.

They might still already have someone. It's one day after signing day. If they don't announce something by the weekend then I'll figure they're still looking.

Allis said RR was talking to the team tonight and that it may come tomorrow. He thinks it's not a home run but somebody young either going to be poly or African American and is pretty good recruiter sounds pretty much like a good pick up

Sounds like a solid hire... If it is done, I would expect an announcement today.

I don't know why there would be any further delays if they have their man.

'either poly or african american'?

What does that mean? Is it an actual person or just a profile of who they are looking for? In which case how do we know that's a good pickup? Any poly/aa that can recruit is a good coach? It just makes no sense to me..

I don't mind that it has taken so long. It's clear that they swung and missed a few times at this point, and that's ok. They are trying to hire the right person instead of just succumbing to the urgency. It's not like the class would have been any different if they had rushed it..

That is just an assumption that Brad Allis threw out there, not the thoughts of those actually making the decisions. The person I am hearing is neither Polynesian or African American, but is young. I think what they are really looking for is someone who knows the game and at the same time is young and energetic enough to resonate with recruits and increase our subpar recruiting. I think that is a great game plan since, an edit from Stoops favorite saying, talent beats hard work when talent works somewhat hard. I just hope that whomever we get has nice ties in either Texas, Arizona, or the Northwest. I think those three areas would help our recruiting immensely since California seems to be in good hands with Donte and Yates (though another person with Cali ties wouldn't hurt).

We got Addae hitting up Florida.
Magee hitting up Ouisiana
Yates hitting up So Cal and a little Texas
Michalczic hitting up No Cal and a little Northwest
Coach Donte hitting up all of Cali
Ragle hitting up AZ (must be on sabbatical)
Rod Smith and Tony Dews hitting up the midwest and anywhere else
