It's just an idea that this would be a destination job for an alumn who bleeds red and blue. Something they have waited for their whole life and would bring enthusiasm and a burning, hungry desire to succeed here for the long haul.

I would rather it be a Chuck Cecil type who was currently a hot successful HC at a smaller school, but I am willing to give my support to something other than being a stepping stone for someone or a career rehab or retirement gig for someone else.
Just don’t play the “head coaching game” at all.

As many of us expect/feel deep down (see above post), we can’t win THAT GAME.

I also agree it has probably already been decided by Heeke...and it likely is some old retread. Shrug. AZ football plods along.
Agree with you 100%. Hiring another retread just kicks the can down the road another 5 years before we hire another retread.

How about going after all of the Stoops?

Or maybe just Bob?

I'm wondering if Mike will join Bob in the unemployed catagory soon.

I saw Hansen pushing Cecil, Hunley and the UCLA one game HC, forgot his name.

THERE IS A REASON THEY ARE LIFE LONG POSITION COACHES.

if no one ever game them a chance at HC, there is a reason why. You don't do this in a P5 program.
Think the UCLA guy is Jedd Fisch mentioned in article I posted earlier, don't think he's a fit but do think a young coordinator who has proved himself and has had good tutelage could work, see Kelly and Smart.

Seems Chief has been pretty absent in all of this, so guessing with his mentions of Sumlin previously, that he might prefer to let all the banter go on, and then jump back in upon announcement, that he tried to let the board know, and that his inside access has been validated.

Well based on Chi's prior coach opinions, I guess we can eliminate Butch Jones, Les Miles, and Major Applewhite. Eh, at least it's not Butch. Unless you're really underplaying the "pretty pleased" part

No idea but he seems great to me. He got the most out of Taylor Kelley and bercovicci and was a great recruiter at ASU. Memphis seems to be flourishing under him, especially qb play. He has actual Arizona recruiting experience, and isn’t a re tread. Win-win.....win

If RR had any sense of U of A athletics history, he would have known triangles and the program don't mix. The "Triangle of Secrecy" was about as doomed from the start as our best team in U of A history was against the triangle and 2.

He's a very good coach, but he'd be an absolute blah hire that wouldn't spark any interest in the community, which is so desperately needed.

Makes me feel a lot better. With that cryptic message I have to think Sumlin. Still dreaming about Lane, but can't see that. I think us board fans are different than casual fans. Don't think the smaller school coaches (Klienman, Applewhite, Littrell, etc) would draw a casual fan to a game.

Well, I don't think hiring an ex-cat is necessarily going to drive attendance, neither are young coaches or most of the retread names being floated. To move the attendance needle, I think that leaves Sumlin or Kiffen, I'll go with Sumlin.

If we are only thinking attendance, I think Lane would be better. FAU received such a huge attendance increase from him (and just general excitement). Our fans are obviously different than FAU as a whole but I'd think he'd have a pretty good impact.

Not that I am guessing it's Lane or Sumlin, I'm waiting to hear from others too.

EDIT: Actually thinking more, considering we are a basketball school primarily, Kiffin seems like a good fit to make something notable of the football program.
