As much as we want to know who the new guy is... yeah, I agree with this. Bad enough news day, this can sit for a weekend if need be.

Louisville announcement (players suffer, coach gets off scot free).
Haden retiring (not necessarily bad but takes a lot of the media attention).
Manziel stuff (hate to see anyone falling apart like this, even someone like him).
Crane collapse (1 dead, others injured, a lot of damage).
All of this the Friday before Super Bowl. If you want this announcement to go unnoticed, then announce today.

There is news everyday, this is a DL Coach at Arizona...How much news do you expect on even the slowest news day? This could happen in the dead of summer in between NBA and NFL seasons with only some baseball and it still would not even be a blip on ESPN. Unless it is a controversial hire.

Also Hater, wasn't implying Byrne was going to USC. Simple implying Haden was horrible at his job and it will be hard for them to find someone who doesn't improve their athletics.

USC's inability to hire a competent football coach is only matched by its inability to hire a competent AD. For the sake of the rest of the PAC, lets hope the incompetence continues.

Scheer is dropping hints on Scout Premium that there is a "huge" development and he knows who it is, but won't reveal it.

I know who it is and won't tell you to....IT'S WILD. If you buy premium I will share with you. Just send me a check for $200 and I'll make up some name for you and when it changes tell you how things fell thru with the guy I told you.

Look, I've got BearDownWildcats.com premium and I'm getting nothing out of it. So, are we finally getting Mike Ditka or what?

He was just joking about the "huge" update.

All he really said was that there was a good reason there was no announcement. He didn't share the reason though. Personally, I suspect RichRod had explosive diarrhea and couldn't sit through the presser.

Relax 3goggles. If you read his resume you'll see he knows how to coach a defensive line. And he has southern California recruiting ties in San Diego.

Seriously? A Scout Premium costs $200? And I'm being serious. I've never ever subscribed to any board, Rivals, Scout, 247 (do they have a pay board?), PGU...

Amey huh? Suppose the pay boards claiming they knew this for certain past week and held on to the name so a free blog could claim sources and break Amey news with their certainty. Nice of them pay boards. I appreciate that. Also thankful for this free forum and others sharing their info.

Let's see if it turns out to be true or turns into another Davonte Neal to AZ...

A) If it is Amey it's because other candidates fell through. That would account for the delay.

B) As a happy subscriber to a premium fansite I can tell you that you don't get every little piece of info. For this search everything has been kept very quiet. Which is a good thing as it relates to point A above.

Well he definitely wasn't our first choice as if he was, he would have been named a long time ago. Underwhelming hire but then again its only the DLine coach.

We went from a ton of experience on defense as far as our coaches are concerned to literally the bare minimum. The experience factor didn't help us so admire Rich Rod for going exact opposite direction.

I wonder if Amey is going to be a great recruiter and if he has the "Savage" attitude as I think that is far more important then being a good technique coach at a position like D Line. I am not sure Ed Orgeron is an awesome technique coach, I think he is full of piss and vinegar and gets players to run through a brickwall during games and also recruits awesome players so thats why he is considered one of the best DLine coaches in the country.

We need to significantly upgrade the talent on DLine and if Amey has the sales skills to recruit those guys, then the drive to push them to play at 110%, I am fine with the hire.

A few notes, if this was the hire UA should have done everything they could to hide the news since it is very underwhelming based on the wait. I agree with previous poster's that obviously things fell thru with other candidates.

The real question is, is that really Vincent Amey in that picture or Anthony Anderson? Maybe we are all being catfished and Vincent Amey is not a real person. Has anyone actually seen him face to face?

I wonder if there were issues with coaches relating to players that prompted him to go 100% African American on the defensive coaching staff?

The way the players tweeted after Casteel and Bill were let go would make that very hard to believe.

I really wouldn't care if it did. I mean if that was just one of the things he was looking at for better relations to young football players these days or something. but it does seem unusual, 100% of the new hires.

Is everyone still under the impression this was some sort of strategic move to make the fans wait this long? I thought by now it would've obvious that we didn't get the guy(s) we originally wanted and have been pursuing.

So, did we have an agreement with someone depending on a background check and the background check came back with issues? What ever the true story is, It is obviously not pretty because we would have had a decision by now.

I'm wondering if they still aren't chasing a target. Lev said that rumors were they had been making a run at Big Joe but hadn't been able to pull it off. Had they decided they needed to go forward and go with Amey, I'd think we'd have heard by now. Camp starts in a few days.
