Lets be fair to the Butkus Award people...They shouldn't be thrown under the bus...

Alone that is, The Ronnie Lott people should join them.

Scooby should be winning them all. Let alone being left off the finalist lists of those two awards. Bug will be happy though when Kendricks wins the Lott Award.

One of the Trojan radio personalities was on talking about how Leonard Williams was robbed of the award. It was sad to hear his arguments. Oh sports talk radio

I can't even begin to imagine the mental gymnastics involved in making that argument.

Glenn Parker picked Williams, but got his first name wrong. He's kinda dorky. Parker, that is.

He is an embarrassment to to his alma mater. He is painful to listen to and tries WAY too hard to appear objective and unbiased... And it's not working, because the friends I have who are fans of other schools think he is even worse than I do.

He makes Brock Huard seem interesting... which is no small accomplishment.

PS - if the vote was for the best defensive NFL prospect, then Williams wins hands-down. Unfortunately for him, it is not.

yup. Good thing the bus has forward, and reverse. It can run over the butkus fools, then back up for the Lott fools.

Bleacher Report on Scooby's rising Heisman stock.
Rising

Defensive players are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to the Heisman race, as past results have shown. Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o's second-place finish in 2012 was as much about who he played for—as well as the fascinating yet made-up personal story that captivated the national media—as what he did on the field. In most years, defenders only end up getting token consideration for the award.

Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright's "story" isn't as sexy, because he's not the first unheralded recruit to rise to greatness, but his on-field effort more than makes up for his lack of a Hollywood-level backstory.

The national leader in tackles for loss (28) and forced fumbles (six), to go with 140 tackles and 14 sacks, Wright has elevated himself to the level of the best defensive player in the country. This has coincided with the Wildcats rising into serious playoff contention, winning the Pac-12 South title and moving up to seventh in the latest rankings.

If Arizona beats Oregon on Friday, the Wildcats may very well make the semifinals. And Wright may parlay that into an invite to New York City, something standout Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey didn't manage last season.

I would say best defensive player not in the secondary. McCallister and Cason might argue with your statement.

Oh Lord, totally different positions and responsibilities......but Cason was not in Scooby's league in terms of impact and domination. Cason gets lumped in with McCallister way too much on Arizona message boards. Cason was really good. McCallister was great.

Was not going to make it to NYC anyways but a loss like this for the Arizona probably knocks him out of the Top 5 in Heisman voting.

Definitely. He might end up with double digit tackles but he really had very little effect.

To even be in the peripheral conversation playing defense at a non-traditional powerhouse program is an achievement in and of itself. Especially for an award that's solely given to QBs.
