Scooby a full-go in practice and it looks like it's all systems go for the bowl game. Should he play? Here's why it's important to him and why it makes sense...

I am absolutely ecstatic that he's going to be playing in the bowl game. I love watching him play and I personally think he is the poster child for loving the game of football. All that aside has he definitely decided to cast his lot with NFL next year? I can honestly think of more reasons why he should stay than reasons why he should leave but that doesn't mean anything. Has anyone else heard anything definite?

Scooby should be getting his Draft grade soon I think.

He has until Jan. 18th to declare and NFL releases underclassman list on 22nd.

I think odds are 70/30 that he's gone. I'd have it higher but he has played so little this year, and he's gotta see what kind of prospects he has. Suppose the NFL doesn't give him a grade and the scouts tell him "you're probably a fourth rounder at this point." That's when the decision gets tougher. So yeah, I think he's leaving, and if he gets a grade from the NFL (if I remember correctly they now give only first round grade, second round grade, or no grade) then he needs to go. But we still have to see what his odds are for a high draft spot. It's very hard to make it in the league and the higher your draft spot the more security you have to start out. Hell, Ka'Deem put up almost 4,000 yards in two years and he's just hanging on at the next level. The main thing we can hope for with Scooby is that he gets good advice.

Right. NFL changed recently to as high as 1st, 2nd or neither. Neither, is NFL's way of saying stay in school or puts more responsibility back on the player to make best decision possible and not trust what NFL use to grade which was first 3 rounds but also included a "no potential to be drafted grade".

I think NFL scouts have a short memory and Scoobie hasn't played all year. One lower tiered bowl game is not going to refresh their memory. They'll go Scoobie who. His numbers won't jump out at you at the combine either. Scoobie's greatest talent is the giant heart that beats in his chest and no combne can measure that. I personally think where he's going to wind up is a very low draft pick with not much of a bonus and no guaranteed money. At that point stay and if he has another incredible year his draft stock will rise and there's a lot more money in his pocket. I understand my thinking is biased because I want him to stay.

Why do I get the feeling that the entire NFL is gonna pass up Scoobie in the first two rounds and Belichick is gonna snap him up just like he did Bruschi?

Most likely what's going to happen, but I could see Chip snatching him up if he's still coaching the birds. You know Teddy will be lobbying for the Pat's to draft him, should be really interesting come draft time.

The great thing is for those that could care less about what freaking bowl were playing in & just happy to be playing in one now have a final opportunity to watch one of the greatest Cats ever lace it up for the last time. I'm so freaking pumped for this bowl game, but I'm in the minority from reading some of the posts?

Injury prone, under sized, unathletic, and not as much film to review as every other LB out there.

I wouldn't call him injury prone. He's had two injuries in his career at Arizona and started every game his FR and So seasons if I remember correctly. Undersized like Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis, and Bobby Wagner? Height is overrated at linebacker. Everyone says he is un-athletic, but I don't get it. He had a really good SPARQ score out of high school (one of the best in California for his class) and he is relentless in the weight room. He will kill it at the combine. I think he goes mid-2nd with the worst possible case being late-3rd, but that may just be me.

All Scooby's has ever done is make everyone who has underestimated him look stupid. I don't know where he will go in the draft (or if he will go), but he will be the hardest working, most motivated player wherever he ends up. .

Betting against him is foolish and doesn't speak well for your judgement.

I think Scooby will be an excellent player in the NFL.

I don't think NFL scouts will agree with me. And his draft stock/draft choice number will suffer as a result.

Exactly... I am honestly tired of reading about how "un-athletic" he is on these forums. Seems like it's in vogue and fits in the board legend of Scooby, but it's false. IIRC, he had either the first or second highest SPARQ score at a prominent Nike event in CA, and one of the higher scores in his class. I've talked to him personally, and would bet a fair sum that he's taller than Ray Lewis. And he is listed at 246 lbs.

I think some of the opinion also some from comments the staff has made in the past. I seem to recall RR saying "He's not the biggest or the fastest guy, BUT"... Umm, they don't need pile on the rhetoric (to make themselves look smart & good?); they're not doing the kid any favors by perpetuating that talk track.

Not sure where he'll get drafted, though. Doesn't seem like even a perfect ILB prospect on paper goes in the first round anymore. And missing the entire season is certainly not going to help his status, either.

So long as he can stay healthy, I think he'll have a nice career in the NFL regardless.

TO: Division I Football Student-Athletes with Remaining Eligibility.

FROM: Chris Howard, director of NCAA enforcement; Steve Mallonee, managing director of NCAA academic and Membership affairs

SUBJECT: Information Regarding the 2015 National Football League (NFL) Draft, Tryouts and Agents

Five Points to Remember:
You will lose your eligibility IF:
1. You agree orally or in writing to be represented by an agent or any individual acting on behalf of the agent (e.g., runner).
2. You accept any benefits from an agent, a prospective agent or any individual acting on behalf of the agent (e.g., runner).
3. You participate in a tryout with a professional team that lasts longer than 48 hours, which you have not personally financed.
4. You tryout with a professional team during the academic year and miss class.
5. You enter the draft AND do not take the appropriate steps to withdraw and declare your intention to resume intercollegiate participation.

Agents

2. Am I allowed to have contact with an agent?
YES! The NCAA does not prohibit contact between a student-athlete and an agent as long as the student-athlete and his family and friends do not have an agreement for representation with the agent and do not receive any benefits from that agent or any of the agent's representatives.

4. Am I allowed to have any type of agreement with an agent?
NO! You are not permitted to have a written or oral agreement with an agent or anyone who is employed by or acting on behalf of an agent or sports agency (i.e., "runner").

Yeah, 3rd round.

Where do those rumors keep coming from?

Scooby lists at 6'1" or 6'2", around 241-246 pounds.

Only think Scooby lacks is lateral quickness.

Scooby is probably closer to 5'10" than 6'1".

He's a big, strong guy, but he has the reputation of being a bit undersized and slow. Another year in college would help to overcome that reputation.

The recruiting services ranked him as a two star. I bet the draft scouts will probably underrate him as well.

1. I think our staff is largely responsible for perpetuating that perception.

2. How will coming back impact people's perception of his size or speed? He is not having a better season than he did last year... if they don't believe in him now, they will not then.

I'd like him to come back as well, but let's be real. His combine numbers will matter a LOT... And coming back for another season is not changing those. The only upside from returning is to prove he is healthy; and if he gets injured again then any possible durability concerns are magnified. Risk > reward for him to come back.

If he is not 6', he is awfully close. And that is deifinitely taller than Ray Lewis.
