I guess that leaves only Mojo Weerts from the Sumlin class which was his last

You are right. Most actually do. Some of the NIL darlings might not, but the vast majority of athletes do.

I suppose I will just have to get used to college free agency. It just seems crazy to me. To go from absolutely no benefits to an outright Wild West scenario just seems short sighted. Many schools do already have donation sharing collectives and I have no problems with those as money is evenly distributed amongst the athletes(in most cases). To me the issue is the outside money/product(to select athletes) and schools tampering more with the lax rules. Welcome to the NCFL.
50 percent of college football players do not get their degree. That percentage is actually better than the other major sports of basketball and baseball. It's a real shame because I loved your use of the word disingenuous.
So, only 59% of male freshmen at the U of A graduate within 6 years. You're not making as significant a point as you might think!!!

U of A Graduation Rates (https://www.scholarships.com/colleges/u ... ion-rates/)

Graduation Rates - 2021

Bachelor's degree seeking students completing a bachelor's degree
  • Graduation Rate Within 4 Years 49.7%
  • Graduation Rate Within 5 Years 61.5%
  • Graduation Rate Within 6 Years 64.2%
Graduation rates within 6 years by gender
  • Women 68.8%
  • Men 59.4%
Graduation rates within 6 years by race/ethnicity
  • White 65.7%
  • Black african-american 54.7%
  • Hispanic 59.7%
  • Asian 72.5%
  • American Indian or Alaskan Native 34.3%
  • Race-ethnicity Unknown 69.8%
  • Non-resident alien 72.3%

Yea and among the football players it,s at least 10% less and some sources say the number that get their degrees is 47%. The really sad part is the student athlete has access to so much help and free private tutoring there is no excuse. Access to tests and access to term papers that are graded and rewritten for them. All they have to do is show up.

I'd liked if he stayed.
He is good, but how good? There were two other receivers getting a lot of the defenses attention. We'll find out in '23.

Hmm. Don't remember saying anything about "Tucson good", but still doesn't take away the fact he had a 5* freshman phenom and an all American on his sides helping him by drawing coverage. Like I said we'll find out in '23.

Supposedly Singer was told by USC that he was going to be their featured guy. The returning Heisman winner targeting him 10-15 times a game. That was their pitch so unless they just straight up lied to him, he will have a big year

I agree that losing Singer hurts.......but not nearly as much as losing Barrs. We have a number of excellent receivers other than Singer that we can turn to. We do NOT have a bunch of PAC12 level DL's that we can replace Barrs with.

I agree with everything here except Barrs being our biggest loss. IMO Jaxen Turner is our biggest loss because he was our most consistently solid defensive player(going by PFF) and maybe a top 3 player on the whole team. Actually very surprised he isn't at USC already too. You are right about the DLine in comparison to our WR group. I don't think Singer is going to be an exceptionally big loss with McMillan, Cowing, Jones, Green, and Luke being able to play some slot too. Had Cowing gone pro I would be shitting bricks about Singers departure.

The DLine on the other hand is losing 5 players off an already shaky group. We have some interesting young guys, but young guys usually don't blow up in their first major college opportunity(Davis, Johnson, Kongaika, Ward, etc). Getting Norton helps but he didn't exactly blow it up at Georgia, so that is a wait and see acquisition. Also not sure on Manoa as he played both lines at UCLA, but never really got to show out on either. Really believe we still need a couple of impact transfers there to feel comfortable about our depth and talent.

I'm thinking if they are all healthy, our linebacker group is going to be very good. Can this help make up for an inadequate D Line?

Those DLine guys didn’t excel in Nansen’s system. Barrs (who I love BTW) went from 5.5 sacks to zip. Shand and Wilson had little impact.

It appears Nansen wants those interiors guys to eat blockers and create lanes for this LB’s. He values pressure from the ends so that is where I be want to see an uptick.

Harris and Echols had a number if pressures and about 10 sacks between them. Ward, Davis III,Lane and Patu seem to be the guys. I would love a DEnd with proven stats but those guys are hard to find.

I think the LB corp will be much improved. I have a hunch we will see a lot of three LB groupings in those early downs.

I think our secondary is going to be a lot better. Turner was solid but note he hasn’t said much about offers nor has he signed with anyone. Maybe he will come back if go into the draft?

Isaiah Turner, Maldonado, Warnell and Genesis Smith should be a very good safety group and Prysocks, Davis, Celestine and Karnley will be really good I think

The reason Nansens system screwed the interior DLine of pressuring the QB is his lack of blitzing. Our QB pressure was atrocious. That is why several QBs passed all over our D. You need more blitz scheming if you want to open up lanes for interior lineman to get pressure. Rushing 3 or 4 everytime pretty much said Echols and Harris would be your sack leaders. We better hope for instant upgrades on the outside if we want get any interior pressure. Or Nansen can start blitzing more.

I do like our LB group. Some good young talent there. Lane should be a pretty good LB. Nice size and athletic traits. Manu looks like a nice hybrid LB that should be used consistently to rush the passer.

I too also like our young secondary talent. Lots of guys with the size and athleticism to excel. Still would like Turner here though. He was good and not sure Warnell is an upgrade there. The other guys are all very young and undoubtedly will take a year to maximize their potential. I do see Prysock and Davis as upgrades, but their youth will get in the way initially.

Singer was great as WR3, with an All-American WR1, 5* freshman WR2, a great receiving RB, and another very good TE. As a WR1, Singer is untested. I wouldn't bet against him succeeding, but also wouldn't be shocked if he struggled, as he'll be the focus for opposing DBs.

As for the DLine, very disappointed last year overall. Maybe it's just Nanson, but I thought we took a half step back last year. Losing starters to transfer hurts. And unlike at receiver, we don't have an All-American or 5* freshman returning.

UCLA finished runner up to him as UCLA was somehow his dream school, but I think UCLA's recruiters were Nansen and Co, so you should have a good shot.

Our base defense plays 2 LBs, Flowe is probably promised starting MLB position, understandable move.

As a starter who played probably 90% of the snaps, he had to know with Flowe he would lose at least 50% of those.

Still the timing seems odd. His first tweet came around the time Flowe was committing to us so he had to be aware of that and seemed to want to compete.

Now we are at the start of the semester and he decides to bounce? He was a vocal leader on that side of the ball and the team worked on getting him that extra year. Just seems odd to me the timing of his move past the fact he would lose snaps.

I understand there is an excellent chance we will get another highly regarded linebacker which may reduce his playing time even more.

Daniel Heimuli is a 4-Star Middle Linebacker out of Menlo Atherton High School. He led the Menlo-Atherton defense on a successful state championship campaign

U District Bar Fight Led to Heimuli, Fuavai Departures

Linebackers Daniel Heimuli and Ruperake Fuavai were dropped from the University of Washington football team after allegedly instigating a fight with employees at a University District pub — an incident described as angry and violent after the players were asked to leave at closing time and informed they couldn't take their alcoholic drinks with them.

UCLA was recruiting Kyle Ford and GBJ and was going to take the first to commit. It sounds like Ford just did. I know you guys are after Bryant. GBJ would have been my preference between the two.

We have now had 23 scholarship players enter the portal.......but only signed 5 out of the portal. Either Fisch is going to sign a boatload of portal transfers/high school players shortly or we are going to be under-manned come next September.

The only number that counts is the 85 limit maximum. By my count we only have a couple open scholarships available.

We had to further purge the roster to fit the 23 incoming freshman (we didn’t have 23 players exhaust their eligibility). A few of the transfers hurt but when we look back we might see we upgraded or at least was neutral in production
