One good thing about DST ending in November is these games will be on an hour earlier out here in Cali.

One of my son’s best buddies is Jim Michalczik’s kid.

He and his family are all great people. I’m glad they are doing well in Corvallis, but Go Cats in this game!

Here it is. They're coming off a bye, just like us. Obviously their wins over Utah and UCLA are particularly note-worthy. I didn't realize Uiagalelei was such a moose at 6-4 250 (with 5 rushing TDs.) Another physical note is that their two OLBs are both big and tall and obviously can function as DEs, with 4 sacks between them.

I really hate how the NCAA deducts sack yardage from the QB's rushing stats. I have no idea how good a runner he is although the 5 TDs rushing is impressive.

The NFL model is better where sacks go against team stats, not individual stats.

Your memory is failing. 265 lbs would have been a heavy upgrade to RRods OKG's

From the AZ Daily Star:

No. 14: Parker Zellers, defensive lineman
Michael Lev Jul 26, 2017

NO. 14: DL PARKER ZELLERS

Ht/Wt/Yr: 6-1, 247, senior

Comment: Arizona has spent considerable resources trying to find needed upgrades along the defensive line. Yet one of the players the UA has sought to replace happens to be one of its most irreplaceable players.

At 6-1, 247, Zellers has no business playing nose tackle in the Pac-12, at least not in 2017. But Zellers worked his way from walk-on to starter. Defensive line coach Vince Amey runs a meritocracy, and Zellers earned his spot by outplaying bigger, more sought-after players (which would be just about everybody else).

Which isn’t to say Zellers is an All-Pac-12 performer. He had 12 tackles in nine games last season. Three of those were sacks. That tied for the team lead. His two forced fumbles gave him solo top honors in that category.

No news flash, but Oregon State's a damned good football team. They're coming off a bye, just like we are, and that may be more advantageous to a team if the game after the bye is on the road. We won at WSU by a big margin, but a number of people think WSU has some schematic problems, and now that they've been exposed, they may struggle the rest of the way. And our fans seem focused on Homecoming with UCLA and Gronk in two weeks. OSU has no glitz; that's why they've been "left behind" in the Pac-2/MWC. But, they're ranked Number 11, and we don't even have votes, which means we're not even top 35. Seems like a dangerous situation, and we've got some fans who are mildly interested in football (and only when we win big) waiting to pounce, because they've somehow decided we "should" win this game.* We're the underdog. We may win, but this figures to be a very tough game.

* Not necessarily on this board, but you know they're out there in the world. (Sigh.)

By the end of last year, Oregon State was perhaps the most dangerous team in the PAC. Great D, very good running game, a little questionable at QB. They went out and got DJ U. from Clemson at QB, and there's a good reason they are ranked #11. They are solid from top to bottom this year.

We need to avoid a let down coming off the WSU beat down. We've won nothing yet this year, and just because we went out and beat WSU, doesn't mean we can just show up and beat anyone. Especially a team as good as the Beavers. Let's hope having a letdown after a big game win is a lesson we don't have to learn the hard way.

Can’t wait and it’s a big game. Win out and have USC lose twice (likely) then we would finish third and if both UDub and Oregon get playoff berths then we could get the best bowl tie in we have available

I have the same thoughts re a letdown. What gives me perhaps a bit more faith is that in three years, I dont remember a Jedd Fisch team ever not giving pretty much a maximal effort. His guys just don't quit. I think we'll win but we can certainly lose.

I'm traveling some distance to be there and can't wait.

Huge game. I'm hoping that finally, it's our time.

I’ll be watching (if it’s Fifita) amongst Beaver fans up here cheering and hoping for victory, but being realistic. ntOSU is a very capable football team and only a fool would assume we curbstomp them like Wazzu. In fact, I believe a W over the Beavers would be far more impressive than one against the Bruins, given each teams QB. I’m always hoping for that game where UofA football turns the corner, but left at best with the feeling of a hollow, moral victory. Maybe, just maybe, this time Lucy doesn’t pull away the football at the last second! Go Cats!!

Always hated them when Byrne pushed them so much. I don't even own a white shirt. If they want everyone to wear the correct color, put the right shirt on the back of their seat before the game starts.

And like you said, I would like to see the UA's record during the -outs.

If your costume is “teenager addicted to iPhone”, you can easily attend the party and watch the game at the same time. Extra points every time you are super annoyed when someone wants your attention.

Guys we are way out over our skis because of our outstanding victory over WSU. We have barely won double digit victories in 4 years. We will be playing a team motivated to win the PAC because they have no conference to go to. Play tough, no one get hurt and hope to keep the folks on the East coast past their bedtime. I don't see us winning this game but that is why they play them.

I kind of look at this season as a celebration, and here's why. In fairly rapid succession, we had the transition from Dr. Hart to Dr. Robbins, from Byrne to Heeke, from RichRod (with the secretary thing) to Sumlin (with the booze thing), COVID, Scott to Kliavkoff, the demise of the Pac-12, and Arizona to the Big XII. That's not a lot of stability for anybody to feel any level of assurance. Oh, and we lost a ton of games. I never thought I could feel worse than the Mackovic years and the aftermath. So, just like Stoops eventually got us to the Vegas Bowl, and that was a big party, Fisch seems like he's on a similar (actually much faster) trajectory. It would be a shame if he falls one game short of the stated goal of a bowl game, but everything's right in front of the team, nothing worthwhile is ever easy, and it just sort of feels like it may be in the cards. Doesn't necessarily mean we'll win tomorrow, but that would take a lot of pressure off.

This team didn't know how good they were earlier this season. Now they know if they execute, play physical, and don't miss tackles, they are very good.

Screw kicking the can down the road. We're winning this game because we can. It's our time now.

I'm anticipating a huge letdown tonight. Granted most U of A football games are a letdown but coming off a rare road victory my expectations are understandably low. This game is a matchup nightmare for Arizona. The defense is going to get a hefty dose of smash mouth football and simply don't have he personnel to stop it. Couple that with OSU's strength on the defensive line and it's going to be a long night. This one is gonna be ugly my friends. The stadium will be 3/4 empty by the middle of the 3rd quarter. Seemingly all enthusiasm from the WSU win already seems like a distant memory. It was likely our last win of the season.

No. 11 Oregon State (-3.5) at Arizona, 10:30 p.m. (ESPN)

Arizona has been one of the season’s most pleasant surprises. Jedd Fisch’s 4-3 team can score points, but it also has a much-improved defense. The Wildcats have faced the likes of Michael Penix Jr., Caleb Williams and Cam Ward, yet have allowed just five passing TDs on the season. They’ll make life difficult for Oregon State’s DJ Uiagalelei.

Arizona 27, Oregon State 24

The pick: Arizona +3.5
