Big XII Bowl Games

Posted: Tue Feb 06, 2024 1:18 pm
by TheCatInTheHat
The Big XII's bowl games are currently (without the bowl sponsor names):

CFP/New Year's Six
San Antonio (Alamodome)
Orlando (Camping World Stadium - XFL)
Houston (NRG Stadium)
Memphis (Liberty Stadium)
Phoenix (Chase Field)
Ft Worth (TCU)/Dallas (SMU) on alternating year basis
Shreveport (Independence Stadium)

With the demise of the Pac-12, it opens the door to the Pac-12's bowls to negotiate new tie-ins. That could potentially add:

Las Vegas (Allegiant Stadium)
San Diego (Petco Park)
El Paso (Sun Bowl Stadium)
Los Angeles (SoFi Stadium)

Vegas seems likely to the so-called experts, with the California bowls possibly pursued by the Big Ten.

I received a questionnaire from the Big12 (via the UA athletic dept) regarding the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City. There were questions such as 1) Have you ever attended 2) Are you likely to attend again, etc. My answer to every other question was "Move the tournament to Las Vegas". Given a choice between the entertainment capital of the USA vs. Cowtown (KC) I would pick Vegas every day of the week.

Big XII Coincidence

by TheCatInTheHat
Don't know where I stumbled across this, but it's a bit of a head-shaker. With the impending move over the summer into the Big XII, most people realize that our "WC" Wildcats hand sign (right hand only, please) is identical to that of the Kansas St Wildcats. Wildcat solidarity, I guess. But ironically, ASU's fourth-finger-down "broken fork tine" hand sign is the same as that of the Houston Cougars. It turns out that years ago, Houston's live mascot, Shasta, got its paw caught in a cage door, which resulted in an amputated toe. Prior to a game, the Texas Longhorns mocked their opponent by holding up their hands with a missing finger. It became a rallying cry, and Houston adopted it as their "Cougar Paw" hand sign. After hearing everything for many years about old Pac opponents, it's kind of fun to hear something that (for us) is a little new and different.

"K-State’s Wildcat hand sign has been around since the mid-2000s and caught on quickly."

In the major sports, we are done with the history we've seen of favoritism shown the LA schools and some others, and some of the notorious regional-centric refs. That's been documented. Any negative claims about what may happen in the Big XII is pure speculation, but most sports media types seem to think we not only landed on our feet, but in a more advantageous situation. Arizona, ASU, BYU, Utah, Colorado and Texas Tech are all pretty familiar and comfortable with each other and each has a history showing it can do well in football. Oklahoma St, the other three Texas schools, West Virginia, the Kansas schools and Iowa St don't need any introductions. Over the last 8 years, UCF has a composite average 9-4 record and has gone bowling each year. Cincinnati is coming off a bad year, but the previous 5 years were fairly similar to UCF. The football title game has a great venue at Jerry World, for hoops it's the Kansas Invitational at T Mobile Center in KC, but there's a chance to move it to Vegas, and the baseball tournament is at the Rangers domed ballpark.

Basketball wise it’s a weird move. There are no rivalries. Football-wise it is boring. I don’t see anyone who is totally hyped up about this move. Time will tell.

You must be looking at it from either the number of games played or maybe a national perception outside the fan base of both schools.

If you knew anything about the fans of both schools concerning these two in basketball, you would clearly see it is a rivalry and one that will only grow larger.

Of course you are you Chief. You enter here once again softly and now you become the burr in the saddle like a good narcissist does. Go away

I think I am looking at it rationally and not with emotion. Being 4-8 against a team does not constitute a rivalry. About the Chief stuff. I think you have what is referred as Chief Derangement Syndrome. Chief must have hurt you in the past.

No Narcissist would have a burner because their desired attention would have to come directly through them and not a burner. Do you even know if Chief has a family? You sound like you need help man.
