What does this mean? Hearing it more and more. Are there dead ball turnovers? Turnovers that aren't just turnovers?
Seth Greenberg: "Missouri needs to limit its live ball turmovers."
Or it like "offensive touches" and "defensive stops"?

I love your word play gumby.
Awesome. Something Wife and I are hoping to instill in our daughter, a love for the written word and semantics.

Re: "Live ball turnover"
A live ball turnover is essentially a steal. A dead ball turnover would be an offensive foul, 3 second violation, palming/carry/travel, ball out of bounds to the other team, or any other turnover that results in a stop in play and the other team getting the ball out of bounds. The difference being that steals lead to fast break opportunities and easy points while other turnovers allow the defense to set up.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

But then what other kind of live ball turnover is there? Why not just call it a steal?Chicat wrote:A live ball turnover is essentially a steal. Re: "Live ball turnover"
Saying that team x has to limit allowing the other team to steal the ball from them is awkward and saying that team x needs to stop throwing the ball to the other team is insulting. "Live ball turnover" sounds like smart coach speak. Hence why former coaches who couldn't articulate these things to their teams and now have to pretend like they know what they are talking about on TV use it.Longhorned wrote:But then what other kind of live ball turnover is there? "They need to value the ball."
"They need to limit live turnovers" is something you say just to feel better about yourself.

Re: "Live ball turnover"
I can see its use, now that I know what it is.
Can we bring back the fast break? I'm tired of "getting out in transition."
